Ranked by Skiing Magazine as one of the “Top 3 Spring Parties in North America,” Sunshine Village’s infamous 79th Annual Slush Cup takes place on Monday, May 21.  Commemorating closing day for the ski and snowboard season, Slush Cup is filled with a colourful array of costumed participants attempting to clear a frozen pond of water.  Prizes are awarded in various categories, including “Awesome Air” and “Best Belly Flop.”  Full of laugher and crazy antics, Slush Cup is a blast for participants and onlookers alike.

As an added bonus to for the Slush Cup closing weekend, BC / DC will be performing daily on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  Redefining the concept of a tribute band, BC / DC has garnered iconic status amongst their diehard fans.  The concert is free to anyone with a lift ticket, gondola only ticket or season pass.

“With Sun in the forecast, and the best spring conditions in recent memory, Slush Cup closing weekend will be an awesome time,” said Mike Moynihan, Sales & Media Manager for Sunshine Village.  “I can’t think of a better way to enjoy the Victoria Day long weekend, soaking up the sun in the mountains, making some last turns for the season, and listening to a live concert with BC / DC.”

Sunshine Village still has excellent spring conditions thanks to a 14 cms (5.5 inches) of snow during the last two days and an impressive snow base of 186 cms (73.2 inches or 6.1 feet).  So bring out the sunscreen, dress up if you dare, and plop yourself down on an outdoor deck with a burger and ice cold beverage.  Slush Cup embraces spring, and is an exclamation mark to a wonderful season!

With an average of 30 feet of natural snow and 12 lifts, including the most quads in the Canadian Rockies, Sunshine each year attracts more than 500,000 skiers and boarders who enjoy more than 3,500 feet of vertical during Canada’s longest season stretching from November to the end of May.
