Pro Skier Arne Backstrom Dies Skiing
Sad news is spreading through the ski community today. Professional freeskier Arne Backstrom has died at the age of 29.
We understand Arne was on a ski mountaineering trip in the Cordillera Blanca region of Peru, South America at the time of his death, on a ski mountaineering trip with friends ‘American Dave’ and Kip Garre. While the trip objective was reportedly to ski Artesonraju, the mountain made famous by Paramount Pictures logo, the accident is reported to have actually happened on an acclimitization ski day on a lesser peak.
We didn’t personally know Arne but definitely share friendships with the amazingly extensive circle of friends and family in the ski community and beyond. To say "We Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet" would be an understatement of huge proportions, Arne was just coming into his prime as a skier, putting his extensive ski career experience to use like never before. Charging hard and showing us all how it’s done in competitions and in the backcountry, Arne was obviously a talented and passionate skier.
Thoughts and wishes going out to Arne’s friends and family, who a lot of you readers either are or know.
If we learn more information on the circumstances or how you can celebrate his life or help in other ways, we will be sure to post it here.
