FWT KICKING HORSE PRE GAME
The 2019 Freeride World Tour stop at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is set to kick off tomorrow, Tuesday February 5. After 2 days of heavy snow amounting to 40cm (and much more with wind loading, see photo) the venue known as Ozone is ready to go. Bluebird skis and -20C temps sucked all the moisture out of the snow after a few days of warmer temps. Last night’s wind however, took a bit of snow of the venue, leaving 10-15cm of ski penetration.
CONDITIONS REPORT:
Forerunner, apprentice judge and former FWT competitor, Conor Pelton, said the venue skied great and snow was consistent. Perfect competition snow. Any avy debris at the bottom is soft. Facets and hidden rocks will present challenges to those who ski slowly or hesitate in steep technical terrain. Temps for competition day will be around -20.
Ski conditions on the hill have been great. Wind loading and warmer temps have completely reset the hill while a slow drop in temp kept the snow quality high. Needless to say, face shots have been plentiful.
