Col de la Floriaz, Aiguille Rouges – Chamonix Diaries Part 3
An all nighter at Chamonix’s infamous l’Amnesia night club wasn’t going to stop ex FWT ripper Laurent Gauthier from getting after it in the mountains. Even with balmy summer-like temps in the valley (and on the south facing climbs), it’s amazing how well Chamonix’s north facing lines can hold winter snow.
Eager to take advantage of a hung-over (and therefore slower) shred day with Laurent, I joined him for a pretty mellow wander off La Flegere into the Aiguilles Rouges and down to Le Buet. From previous trips to the Glacier Mort, we had both looked back at a little couloir line off the backside of the Index chairlift and were both keen to give it a shot. Looks like it’s called the Col de la Floriaz.
It’s a fun Chamonix moderate, holds awesome snow well after the temps rise, and spits you out in Le Buet where you can wrap the day with a cold brew and train ride back to town.
And some photos…
