The Dirt From the Cold Rush at Red

Fresh outta the oven, here's some unadulterated dirt from the Red Bull Cold Rush that just wrapped up at Red Mountain Resort, BC. If you like what you read, Dana Flahr told me. If you don't, lets say it's just the word on the street.

The event went off, well, in it's quirky, unique way in funky weather and snow conditions. Whistler shredder Matty Richard won the skinning event by running up the freakin mountain in an hour and seventeen minutes. But the snow really sucked, so the backcountry booter would have been super dangerous. So it turned into a running start, to click in, to chinese downhill, to beer chug. Pretty funny if you can imagine. Cody Towsend took the Chinese Downhill. Anyone without Look/Rossi bindings had a serious advantage with the binding jump-in.

"The last night was raging. K2 put an open bar on at Rafters for a couple hours, and Matty had a 1000 dollar bar tab for his skinning victory, so he had some serious klingers for the evening including myself, and George Richard, Matt's dad. George was in full form, taking advantage of a Kootenay vacation and rippin up the dance floor, never prouder for his son.

Little C wins my award for drunkest frenchie. I swear if there was a little C cam for this whole event, it would be a one hour comedy special. In the skin, he couldn't get the skins apart for a few minutes, while the camera was in his face the whole time. Then he stuck it under his boot for extra leverage and rippped the tail clip off. All before the skin even started.

Then in the CD, he was a little behind the pack at first (lack of Salomon, Marker or tyrolia bindings) and went into an airplane tuck for extra speed. He then hit a huge roller just around the first bend, still in airplane, and launched up in the air in lazy boy position, and slammed off his back, and kept ripping."

Other highlights? Chris Benchetler got a mention. Off that very same roller, he launched into the air right in front of Dana, one of his heel pieces blew off, and he bit it beetween the chaos of skiers. He was ok.

Oh and apparently the Red bull girls were DECENT. Perhaps we can whip up some photos. Stick drawings wouldn't do it justice.
