TGR Premiere Went Off In Whistler 2008

3pm Wednesday afternoon - 27hrs to showtime and the Under the Influence DVD is in the back of a couriers truck, somewhere between the US boarder and Whistler. Future is uncertain.

11:59pm Thursday night - 2 blindfolded finalists are 7 shots deep into the contest, spinning blindfolded in disarray, wondering which of them is about to take home a pair of ROSSIGNOL S7's.

How did it come to this? What happened? Why is the room spinning, and why is there ketchup on my pants?

Back to 6:49 pm Thursday evening - 11 minutes to showtime and the Gaper Day DVD has just finished burning on a laptop in the lobby, right under the nose of unsuspecting movie goers, yet to be tested and previewed by nobody.

7:28pm Thursday - Somebody is probably fearing for their life as the last few DVD's get projectiled into the crowd, and the feature film - TGR's Whistler premiere of Under the Influence - is about to begin.

That much we can be certain of, the rest is a bit of a blur of ridiculous big mountain spines, pillows, double drops, straightlines, freebies, snowblades, stretchies, heli's, beers, athlete props and more. Simply put, Doglotion.com's night was packed with the TGR Whistler premiere, Gaper Day world premiere, and Fear & Loathing in Whistler after party at the Longhorn, and it didn't suck.

The show kicked off with a Gaper Day double header. TGR shredder Dana Flahr showed his hilarious take on what went down on the last day of Whistler Blackcomb's season, followed by Reed Purvis's masterpiece of rock skiing, worm turns, puddle skimming and debauchery.

Out came the swag and prizes, and local shredders Dana Flahr, Ian McIntosh and Kye Petersen were in the crowd to represent and pump it up.

When the main flick started, jaws dropped and the big mountain gnar began. TGR definitely knows their niche, and when Seth Morrison disses the jibbers he's been stuck with the last few years, the crowd let it out, setting the stage for an hour of the most big-mountain-packed footage we've seen to date. The local boys totally kill it, even giving legend Jeremy Jones a run for his money. And when the show wrapped, butts were glued to seats until the very last credit rolled.

Then off the Longhorn for some after party sillyness and of course the Rossignol ski giveaway, which proved even rowdier than anyone saw coming. You kinda had to be there, but picture an improvised game of musical shots, with rules changing every minute until a very lucky guy ended up with his face deep in a whipcream topped shot and a new pair of ROSSIGNOL S7's in his hand.

Kudos to the runner up, half his size, for given'er until the last round. She would have taken it too, but a confused and delirious judge (cough, Tobin) told her we couldn't change it into a flashing contest. Dare to dream.

Fireballs, powder, swag, slush chugging, big air, cheering, tomfoolery, and more. All on one night of revelry this past Friday in Whistler. The Doglotion.com crew brought TGR's premiere of their latest film to town, and LOST & FOUND didn't dissappoint. Definitely one of the best flicks yet, it got the attention it deserved with easily the biggest Whistler turn out yet - 2 packed shows - or just under 500 people.

The stoke factor was high, and the freshies on the mountain that afternoon only amplified it. Winter's coming indeed.

Kicking off the show was none other than the world premiere of Paul Cotton's Gaper Day 2007 film. Frickin' hilarious. What more can we say? Gaper Day, exposed in all it's gory detail. Watch for it online soon. With a few dozen gapers in the audience, the crowd went off for the whole 9 minute film. And anticipation is already mounting for what Gaper Day 2008 could hold.

Then onto the main show, an hour of DEEP pow, big lines, spines, big airs, and the Whistler boyz showing everyone how it's done. Ian Mcintosh, Kye Petersen, and Dana Flahr were all in the house, signing posters an cheering on each other's segments. McIntosh destroyed it, and opened the film in style. Then comes Kye blowing away any remnant stereotypes of being a freestyler, then just when the movie is starting to get too focused on mellow pow, wham, out comes Dana for some triple drops and good times.

Every segment in the film got huge props, and hell people even stayed to watch the credits.

Then on to the 'Horn for some Fireballs, Fire Ice & Dynamite themed flourescent decor, 80's beats, and a 4-girl chugfest stand off for the grand prize of the evening... a pair of DYNASTAR Big Troubles.

It was a close race but Victoria Cole from Whistler claimed the prize. Question is, was it worth it, now that this flattering photo has surfaced on the web? Hell ya it was, Big Troub's baby. (We have a better one, but we'll leave it to your imagination). And hey, notice there's no guys? Most dudes were too chicken to enter, hearing rumours of Fireball flavoured slush. But nothing could scare the girls away.

Until next year, have an epic winter, and if you ever need a little extra stoke, watch Gaper Day 2007 or LOST & FOUND and you'll be back at it in no time.

About the film...

LOST AND FOUND is the story of the extraordinary season of 2006.07 as seen through the eyes of world-class skiers and snowboarders. With global drought persisting and ski resorts closing around the world, athletes are forced to follow the snow, sending them deep into the uncharted north country of Alaska and Canada – including of course – the Whistler area. Filmed almost entirely in North America, LOST AND FOUND is a testament to the terrain and conditions that only exist in the Western Hemisphere.

It wouldn’t be complete without mind-blowing performances by some of our favourite Whistler athletes, Ian McIntosh, Dana Flahr, Kye Petersen, and Victoria Jealouse. McIntosh returns to try one-upping the films best breakthrough performance in last year’s film – his own – while Flahr is pumped on his return from injuries, and it shows.
