Fires, Mudslides and Powder - What Next?

Man, disasters a plenty at the ski resorts just outside of Santiago Chile, keeping local fire fighters plenty busy. A big fat snowstorm rolled in, so heavy that we knew we wouldn't be skiing for a solid 2 days. So we did like any bored skier would and headed down to Santiago to chilax and wait out the storm.

My First Run in Chile

South America Bound?

Hmmmm, where to go, where to go. After 3 epic trips to Las Lenas, Argentina, this might be the first time we head to South America and skip it, but... we'll see. Right now reports are of decent backcountry but totally wind hammered front country in Las Lenas. Meanwhile further south, Bariloche and La Hoja sound like they couldn't suck more.

Culture Shock

Iqueque, Chile - You know when contsruction sites, sky scrapers, and perfect, palm tree lined board walks make you feel safer your culture back home is messed up.

Chile is not Peru. The taxi driver said Pinochet was a great man, he got rid of prostitution, drugs, and crime. He also said he didn't like Peru.

 

I thought that that smacked of facism, and what I knew about Pinochet made me uneasily scan the old mans face to see if he was really serious about what he was saying. He continued to chat away, a smile on his ghostly white face.
