Salomon Extremes 2013 - Day 1 at Taos

Day 1 of the 2013 Salomon Extreme Freeride Championships in Taos New Mexico went off today, blue bird and all. With Crested Butte being postponed due to low snowpack, this was the first FWQ event of the season. Taos is a 4* event, being the highest level of competition on the qualifier circuit; the best of the best were brought out.

2013 Wrangle The Chute Registration

Registration is open for Wrangle The Chute at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Yours truly will once again be taking care of all the athletes and judges. If you want in, you must impress me (which usually isn't hard).

Send me an email to events@kickinghorseresort.com (but I don't actually work there) and we can get the registration process going.

Black & Whitewater - An Awesome Leif Zapf-Gilje Photo Essay

We totaled the truck, trashed the sled, and had thousands of dollars de-frauded from a bank account.  But no-one was hurt, we were in Nelson amongst the friendliest of friends, and there was fresh snow up the road at Whitewater Resort.  Pretty good if you ask me.  So we rented a full-size moving truck, loaded the mangled snowmobile into the back, and headed up to the hill.

Ornithology and Jordan Innes

How is it that one of the best rail skiers in Canada isn't a household name yet? Where are the straight goods on one of the fastest progressing kids out there, our man Jordan Innes? This is a guy who sets his mind on a trick and, without question, will find a way to dissect it. How does he do it? Is it science that he employs? Well, not quite. Try ornithology.

Liberty Skis in Bulgaria: Ben's Disposable Camera Essay

Liberty Skis sent Joe Schuster and me, along with Tom Winter went on a whimsical powder journey through Bulgaria on assignment for SBC Skier. Dutifully, as Senior Correspondant for DogLotion, I brought along a trusty disposable camera to capture some of the peripherals for this installment. Hope you enjoy.

Chicks Who Rip – Angel Collinson

Angel Collinson has been catching the eyes of the ski industry after being a force on the Freeride World Tour last season.  Some seriously aggressive skiing, mixed with modesty and a positive attitude makes her someone that we can’t help but admire.  It may seem like this girls’ name just ‘fell from the sky’ on the freeski scene, but born and raised in Utah

Salomon Quest & Rocker2 Series Skis - 2014 Preview

Hitting up the Salomon Freeski booth at SIA is always a highlight, and not just because I left with some new goggles! This year was no exception, revealing lots of goodies for skiers to look forward to for 2013/14.

Seven Screws and a Plate

It always happens on the last run.

I hit up Excitation off the Peak Chair. It wasn't the best snow conditions. I fell at the bottom. I hit some crusty snow and pole planted between a rock under the snow. My ski pole basket got stuck and I got whipped around and hit my head. I was wearing a helmet.

Highlight Gear from Outdoor Retailer 2013

It turns out getting to Salt Lake City ain't the easy thing in life. Last year my attempt was thwarted when too much snow in Seattle cancelled all flights, hence a short and way more rad visit to Stevens Pass took its place.
