Lost Mountain Souls Challenge & Tribute Coming to Pemberton BC

Local ski mountaineering legend Peter Chrzanowski has something up his sleeves to share with the Sea to Sky Community this May. Whistler has plenty of their own festivals, now comes time for Pemberton as well. Peter is spearheading the inaugural Pemberton World Mountain Sports Festival kicking off May 21 - 29, 2010. Even in May, the event wouldn't be complete without some skiing now would it? And hence... the Lost Mountain Souls Challenge & Tribute. Here's what he has to say about it...

I wish to introduce a Challenge to pay tribute to all fallen brothers and sisters in the mountains. We all have lost many friends there. Therefore I invite Ski Mountaineering / film making teams for the following challenge. Teams of your preference, average from four to six people per team, would leave Blackcomb Saturday, May 22nd and have three days to arrive in Pemberton by Monday May 24th 9pm (dusk). This is NOT a race. Rather, teams would take three days and two nights to travel from Blackcomb, via Wedge and Mt Currie. Along the way each team would ski as much terrain as possible and document their mission on stills and video. Safety is a huge criterion and will be judged. Each team should take a GPS and record their route. The skiing could be logged and later displayed with google earth. The teams would have until 9pm Monday night to reach Pemberton and Mexico Lindo Restaurant, next to the Pemberton Hotel and Pub. Later , the teams would have a week to prepare an audio visual presentation of their route on the closing Saturday Night of May 29th.

The project would be judged on

  • AMOUNT OF SKIING ALONG ROUTE
  • THE AESTHETICS, LINES CHOSEN, TERRAIN
  • SAFETY
  • THE PRESENTATION

AWARDS TBA

Each presentation would be encouraged to be made as a dedication to a fallen friend from from our mountain community, or perhaps a hero or a legend. You can use stills, archives , video clips to introduce “ the Lost Souls ” in question. You are also more than welcome to use the event, gather sponsors and donate proceeds to families or foundations of the “lost souls “you are representing. Have a great tour!
