I broke in the First Ascent jacket on a week long trip to Trophy Hut in Wells Grey Park. It was -19 C on the day and this coat was cozy enough sitting around in the valley for lunch.
The first thing I thought was 'Do I really need another down coat?' but this jacket almost counts as a new category for me because it packs up so small. Why wouldn't you pack it every day? I mostly do day touring or hut trips and I rarely winter camp, so it's a great size and weight for those days. It zips inside its own pocket which is handy. Packed up its 1/3 the size of my other 800 fill down coat (Note the size of it beside my other necessity) .

I have a small day pack for touring and my other puffy took up too much space, with this one it's great. I'll still hold onto my big down for long camp out traverses but I'll pack this one for most trips.
