Hand built with passion and care in the sea to sky corridor, Funk Skis may seem like a new kid on the block for boutique skis but founder and builder Greg Funk has been building skis for years. Greg is like the rest of us, a ripping skier who loves to be out in the mountains and wants to ride on great skis. The difference is Greg has taken matters into his own hands and has the skills to build them. It's fitting that I met Greg skiing, he was stoked and skiing hard. What else is there to say?
Funk Skis has a number of different models but I'd say the main tool in the quiver is the Slash which is similar to a Rossi S7 but toned down, stiffer and a bit straighter in side cut. Bottom line is, it's as easy and fun to ski but much more stable at speed and there's a bit more tail when you need to stomp landings and get after it in all snow conditions. Other models include the Smokin' Gun, a more traditional straight hard charging ski with an early rise tip, the Transcender, a fully rockered touring ski and finally the Alien, a fully reverse camber, reverse side cut free ride slayer!
The hand built Funk Skis aren't fully custom like some boutique ski companies, however most of the models like the Slash and Smoking Gun are available in different lengths and widths so you can get on the pair that's most suited to you. Wood core, sandwich construction and strong are throw backs to the days when you could count on skis to be as strong as the skiers who ski them. So don't worry about clipping a rock and blowing out your sidewall…believe me I've be trying and these skis take a beating.
