At 11:47 am on Saturday I bought bicycle tubes for an afternoon ride. At 12:32pm it turned to winter in Golden, BC. So, obviously, my bike is still laying in my yard with two flat tires and I went skiing today. So begins the procrastination of duties that is winter.
In typical Golden fashion we left for Farnham Glacier, home of the infamous Olympic Ski Cross summer training grounds,at the crack of 10am with half the party a little rattled from the night before. A toyota champeroned visit to the ditch and a decapitated dear later, we were standing at the bottom of a long road to the goods.
A few kilometes up the trail, we hit the glacier and half way up the rolling bed of happy times a pair of pitying sledders gave us a lift. Our thanks go out to the kind hearted 2 strokers who just wanted us to share the pow with them. Although it was mellow, the 20 cms of blower (not that whistler chunder) made for some good turns and big smiles. Not a bad start to the season.
On the ski out, we stopped in at the RK heli warming hut to enjoy a few stashed brews and lo-and-behold we run into some old winter pals... drinking our beers!
So begin the adventure of winter. Here's to everyone enjoying the early jump start to the season. Get out there before you have to share your mountain with 35,000 gorbs.
